How To Utilize Guest Blogging To Assist With Reputation Management

Published by | 0 Comments

There’s a new phenomenon occurring in the world of blogging. Now bloggers can look forward to becoming a guest blogger at other blogs – and inviting bloggers to post on their own blog. If you are a business owner, a writer, or someone else with a brand that you want to maintain, guest blogging can be a great way to enhance yourself online.

What is Guest Blogging?

Guest blogging is where you appear on a blog that isn’t written by you. Most people write their own blogs because it is theirs. They are able to talk about any topic they desire, though most people traditionally stick with one theme or another. If you are a chef, you want to follow blogs about cooking. If you are a writer, you want to follow blogs about writing within your genre.

Bloggers are often looking for guests. There are multiple reasons for them wanting to do this. One, it gives them a break from having to create new content. Two, it allows them to connect to more readers through contacts of the guest blogger. Three, it gives their readership a treat by reading from a different perspective.

You want to get into all of the guest blogging opportunities that you can as it allows you to get a message out there as to who you are, what you do and why people should care. Regardless of whether you are promoting a book, a restaurant or anything else, you want people to know about you – and blogging is a great way to do this.

How Do You Find Guest Blogging Opportunities?

There may already be blogs that you follow. These are ideal because you were drawn to them for one reason or another and that means that others are drawn for similar reasons. If you don’t follow blogs, take the time to search through them so you can find one that talks about the various themes that you are interested in.

You may be able to find blogs that hit your topic from different angles. For example, if you are a chef with a new restaurant in town, you may want to find a foodie blog. You may also want to find blogs that talk about local restaurants and a blog that talks about anything and everything about your town. This allows you to tap into different demographics in order to be seen.

Some of the bigger blogs may already be familiar with guest blogging. They will probably put out requests periodically looking for a guest blogger. You will be able to submit your request. When you do this, remember that you will be amongst others who want the same spot. You have to sell yourself – and talking about what you do, who is following you, and what your current readership or fan base looks like can do this.

You may also be able to contact a blogger directly. Most bloggers have a ‘Contact Me’ portion on their blog. It may be possible to find a blogger that has never considered a guest blog spot and will jump all over it. Determine what your topic is going to be and when the blog will post so that you can begin working on the blog and promoting it to all of your followers.

Why Will it Help with Reputation Management?

You have to do all you can to manage your reputation. First thing’s first. Do you even have a reputation? If people don’t know about you, then you don’t have a reputation to manage. Guest blogging is a way of developing a reputation because people can learn about you by reading someone else’s blog. The hardest thing may be to get a guest blog appearance if you don’t have any kind of following.

If you are able to become a guest blogger with other blogs that have an incredible following, you are being backed by that blogger. No successful blog is going to take a chance with someone that could ruin their brand. They are going to stand behind you and promote you – and this is an opportunity that you don’t want to pass up.

Blogging for another blog can catapult you into a world of success without you even realizing it. If a blog has 10,000 followers, you have the potential to put your words in front of 10,000 people. Those 10,000 people could turn around and follow you if they like what you have to say on a particular topic – and this means that you are doing very well for yourself.

When you choose a blog, be sure you choose one that is known for providing quality information. If you choose a blog that doesn’t do well or that is not known for offering quality content, you could be damaging your reputation by associating with them. Be sure you do your homework before working with just any blogger that will let you make a guest appearance on their blog. If you do make an appearance, you want it to improve your standing, not make it worse.

How Do You Keep the Buzz Going?

There are a number of ways to maximize your efforts when you have found a blog to make a guest appearance with. You should already be tapped into social media. This includes LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. If you have already made the arrangements with a blog to make a guest appearance, let your fans know!

You will be able to provide a link to the blog where you will appear. Tweet it, place it on Facebook, and let your professional connections on LinkedIn know about it. This will ensure that people read the piece that will be in the blog. It can also add more traffic to someone’s blog – and this is a great way to help yourself get booked on the high traffic blogs. Promise them a piece of your connections and it will be easier to get the booking.

Once everyone knows when you blog, be sure you tell people once the blog is up. Something as simple as “Check out the blog I appeared on here” and include the link is sufficient. With social media, you have to inform people coming and going. The network feeds are always going and people don’t always see every post that you are going to put out there. If you tell them in advance and afterward, they are likely to see at least one of them.

If you really want to be sure the guest blog gets the attention it needs, it can also be promoted in Facebook. It may only cost you a few pounds to promote the post and you can be sure hundreds or thousands more than normal will see it.

Your reputation is everything. You need to manage it in an effective way and guest blogging can do this without costing you any money. Take the time to find blogs that you can connect with and tell them why you would make a great guest blogger. As you tap into more people, you can fuel your reputation and protect it by appearing on blogs that have already made a name for them within the topic you wish to cover.
